2016 Color Of The Year

Pantone has announced its 2016 Color Of The Year in what they describe as a softer take on color for the New Year. For the first time in history, Pantone is fusing two colors together and challenging traditional perceptions while also embracing the current mindset and mood of consumers. So what exactly is the new Color Of The Year? It is a blend of Rose Quartz and Serenity (Pantone 13-1520 and Pantone 15-3919).

“As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent,” Pantone describes.

If you are looking to embrace this new color and add a certain level of calm to your life, we can help. Not only is Rose Quartz and Serenity a beautiful palette, but it pairs well with most finishes and colors. Pantone recommends, “Whether in soft or hard surface material, the pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity brings calm and relaxation. Appealing in all finishes, matte, metallic and glossy, the engaging combo joins easily with other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns, and all shades of yellow and pink. Add in silver or hot brights for more splash and sparkle.” Rose Quartz and Serenity make a stunning statement when combined with a gorgeous flowering houseplant!

As you look to update your home decor in 2016, keep this new fusion in mind as it will help you create a softer, calming space that encourages relaxation. Visit The Family Tree in Snellville, Georgia to shop our gifts and decor to find the perfect plants to pair with Pantone’s newest Color Of The Year.

Christmas Tree Preservation

Now that you have your fresh Christmas tree, you must ensure that it looks full and perky throughout all the holiday festivities! Whether it’s large or small, here are a few tips to help you keep your tree looking great.

Trim the trunk – Unless you’ve cut the tree down yourself, you’ll need to take off about an inch from the Beautiful_christmas_treebottom of the trunk to improve water uptake. Once you’ve done that, immediately place the tree in water.

Watering – make sure that there is always enough water in the tree stand; it can be thirsty work holding up all your lights and ornaments! If the base of the tree goes too long without water it will become crusted over with sap, which will prevent it from absorbing water when you refill the stand. Because it can be hard to reach the stand to add water, one simple trick is to buy several feet of plastic tubing and a funnel; tuck on end of the tube in the tree stand and place the other end on the funnel and voila! easy watering all season!

Prolong® – By keeping your tree watered with Prolong®, you will find that the tree will retain its needles longer in the dry heat of your winter home. This fabulous additive encourages a cut tree to absorb more water than it would normally, thus extending the life of the tree.

Lights – All trees become drier as they age, so it is important to make sure that there are no exposed electrical wires on your light strands and to remember to unplug all electrical decorations each night. No one wants their Christmas tree going up in flames!

As always, if you have any questions about caring for a fresh Christmas tree or just want to browse our extensive Christmas selection, stop by The Family Tree and we’ll be glad to help!
