Assistant Store Manager

Assists the manager in the sales, operations and fiscal activities of the store. Plans and develops systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the store. Assists the manager in supervising, coaching and training staff according to company policies and procedures.


  1. Ensure customer service and satisfaction is a number one priority.
  2. Assist the Manager in store sales, operations, inventory turns, margins and profitability.
  3. Assist the Manager in labor/scheduling to maintain budget guidelines.
  4. Assist the Manager ensuring the store is staffed with qualified employees through the recruiting, screening and interviewing processes.
  5. Provide ongoing training to Second Assistant Manager and other personnel.
  6. Open and close the store as needed.
  7. Ensure that operational standards as written in the Operational Manual are consistently meet.
  8. Ensure product is merchandised in a manner that enhances customer appeal.
  9. Assist the Manager in overseeing product inventory to ensure that store has adequate stock to meet customer’s needs.
  10. Monitors safety compliance and ensure supplies of safety equipment are on hand.
  11. Work closely with the management team to familiarize themselves with the budget process and back office policy and procedures.
  12. Assist manager in the employee review process.
  13. Properly coach, discipline and hold employees accountable in the absence of the store manager.
  14. Resolve customer issues and/or employee issue in the absence of the store manager.
  15. Responsible for all in store training of customers and employees.
  16. Manages the store when the Store Manager is absent.
  17. Accept other responsibilities as assigned.


  • Two year degree in Horticultural or Agricultural Business or related field or five years Retail Management experience.
  • GGIA Certified within first two years of job classification.OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with poise, tact and diplomacy.
  • Computer skills:
  • Intermediate level of skill in Outlook and Excel.
  • Point of Service Training
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs on occasion and 25 lbs regularly.
  • Strong leadership and communication ability to delegate efficiently.
  • Strong ability to train others.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Ability to multi-task.
